GBELEYI, Olasunkanmi Adio


Olasunkanmi A. Gbeleyi has been involved in different phases of science education reforms in Africa for over five years and currently co-leads ongoing reforms in a strand of the African Union’s Agenda 2063- “The Africa We Want”. He was recently appointed as Associate Expert by the Governing Board of UNESCO Institute for African Culture and International Understanding. He is responsible to the Institute Director for supporting programme/project development and execution as well as initiating and supporting research, development and publication activities of the Institution. He is also, an Ambassador of Education in Lagos State and that of Lagos State University of Education (formerly Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education AOCOED) in Nigeria. Olasunkanmi Gbeleyi has is a PhD holder of ICT Education with specialization in cybersecurity at World Bank African Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education in Lagos State University, Nigeria. He had his higher education at the University of Ado-Ekiti where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2015 followed by Master’s and PhD degrees in Computer Science Education in the Lagos State University. He had specialised training of sign language at the Wesley School for Hearing-Impaired, Surulere, Lagos Nigeria. He is a Member of NARST, and of CADASE, Member of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN). He won the prestigious 2021 Best Teacher Award in Lagos State and Education District IV, Sabo-Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. He has won several international gold medals in science and computer education. He joined NARST in 2020 and was a member of the NARST reviewers committee.

Currently, he is a Part-time Lecturer in the Department of Science and Technology Education at the Lagos State University, Nigeria. Gbeleyi has taught at high schools, polytechnic, and various universities in Nigeria. He has also successfully supervised Honours, Masters, and Doctoral students’ research dissertations/theses to completion. He has published in the field of women and education, economics of education, mixed research methodologies, educational leadership and policy, teacher professional development, and feminism. His work is largely propelled by development and empowerment agenda. He is committed to teaching and research, not only because he believes they are both noble and humanitarian, but fundamental for societal growth and development. He is devoted to promoting the core values of knowledge advancement through critical reflection; collaboration through symmetrical communication; trust through constructive and caring feedbacks; openness through the creation of new opportunities and experiences; and the understanding of contextually relevant theories, concepts, CTCA, and practices.

Gbeleyi is committed to teaching and research, not only because he believes they are both noble and humanitarian, but fundamental for societal growth and development. He is devoted to promoting the core values of knowledge advancement through critical reflection; collaboration through symmetrical communication; trust through constructive and caring feedbacks; openness through the creation of new opportunities and experiences; and the understanding of contextually relevant theories, concepts, and practices. He is very proficient in Computer Skills – Excellent user of Microsoft Applications (such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Data Analysis (SPSS), and technical report writing.
